History:
1926, Area first used during summer months by No. 100 Squadron Horsleys target towing for nearby gunnery range. 1929 renamed Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit until /01/1937 when it was renamed No.1 Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit, with Wallace then Horsley aircraft.
/11/1939, No. 16 Squadron with Lysanders. /09/1940 Became a permanent RAF Station and was the main practice area for Army Co-operation Squadrons with Lysanders, Masters, Martinets then Mustangs /05/1942.
1943, Airfield was rebuilt with concrete runways. Then used by RAF Transport Command Warwicks until /02/1944.
/06/1944 to /10/1944, 303rd, 304th, 305th and 306th Troop Carrier Squadrons of the 442nd Troop Carrier Group with C-47s. Moved to Italy for the invasion of Southern France before returning to Weston Zoyland. Then moved to France.
/11/1944 to /04/1945, again used by army co-op Squadrons.
Post-war several fighter Squadrons here temporarily, airfield on care & maintenance by 1947.

1952 to 1958, Airfield re-opened training aircrews on Meteors, Vampires and Canberras. Airfield retained until 1968 but no flying units.
