History:
08/1941 to 05/1942, No. 225 Squadron Lysanders, 08/1941 Hurricane/Mustang, moved to Macmerry.
11/1941 to 02/1944, 1526 (BAT) Flight.
08/1942 to 10/1942, No. 298 Squadron with AW Whitley.
08/1942 to 08/1943, No. 297 Squadron Whitley/Albemarle 07/1943 moved to Stoney Cross.
10/1943 to 10/11/1943, 168/170/268/63 Squadrons, moved to Sawbridgeworth.
Transferred to U.S. 9th Airforce 01/03/1944.
29/02/1944 to 20/06/1944, 389th, 390th and 391st Fighter Squadrons of the 366th Fighter Group with P-47 Thunderbolts from Membury on ground attack missions over Normandy. First combat mission 14/01/1944, 27 P-47s lost from Thruxton, moved to Normandy.
1311 Flt Anson 06/1944 renamed 84 Group Comms Squadron 43 OTU Auster 06/1944.
Used for civil aviation post-war, 1967, first used for motor racing.
