History:
10/1939, Opened as a satellite to Catterick, No. 13 Group, Fighter Command and used by many fighter Squadrons.
10/1939 to 10/1940 and 10/1942 to 04/1943, 219 Squadron Blenheims, moved to Redhill.
1941, Airfield rebuilt with three tarmac runways, new control tower and buildings.
10/1941 to 04/1942, 122 Squadron Spitfires from Catterick, moved to Hornchurch.
02/1942 to 09/1942, 406 Squadron RCAF Nightfighter Beaufughters from Ayr, moved to Predannack.
04/1942 to 06/1942, 167 Squadron reformed here with Spitfires, moved to Castletown.
09/1942 to 10/1942, 410 RCAF
Nightfighter Beaufighters from Ayr, moved to Acklington.
04/1943 to 04/1944, No. 26, 56, 130, and 604 Squadrons here.
05/1944 to 07/1944, 422nd and 425th Night Fighter Squadron, IXth USAAF here from Charmy Down training on Northrop P-61 Black Widow nightfighters. 06/1944 to 07/1944, Six P-61s based at Hurn for night missions over France.
/1944 to /1945, Used by RAF Balloon Command for storage. Returned to agriculture in 1958.
