History:
07/1940 to 03/1941, Grass airfield used by 114 Squadron Blenheims from Horsham St Faith, moved to Thornaby, 114 Squadron lost 7 Blenheims from operations at Oulton.
04/1941 to 07/1941, 18 Squadron from Great Massingham with Blenheim bombers, moved to
Horsham St Faith.
12/1941 to 02/1942, 139 Squadron training on Hudsons, moved to the Far East.
12/1941 to 06/1942, 1428 Hudson Conversion Flight formed here, became 1444 Flight 05/1942.
07/1942 to 09/1942, Transferred to Coastal Command with 236 Squadron with Beaufighters.
09/1942 to 03/1943, 88 Squadron from Attlebridge with Bostons, moved to Swanton Morley.
04/1943 to 08/1943, 21 Squadron from Methwold with Mitchells and Venturas, moved to Sculthorpe.
Airfield closed and rebuilt to Class A standard.
05/1944 to 07/1945, 214 Squadrod from Sculthorpe with Flying Fortress II bombers flying bombing and RCM operations, moved to the Middle East.
05/1944 to 06/1945, 1699 Fortress Training Flight, 10/1944 became 1699 (Bomber Support) Conversion Unit with Fortress and Liberator bombers.
RAF Bomber Command lost 56 aircraft from Oulton, 34 Blenheims, 2 Bostons, 1 Ventura 16 Fortress and 3 Liberators.
06/1944 to 08/1944, 8th USAAF, 803rd Bombardment Squadron (Provisional), the 'Gremlins' moved here from Sculthorpe, worked with RAF Bomber Command No. 100 Group flying radio and radar countermeasure missions with B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberators. 803rd Bomb Squadron (P) became 36th Bombardment Squdron (RCM) and moved to Cheddington.
08/1944 to 07/1945, No 223 RCM Squadron with Flying Fortress and Liberators.
10/1945 to 10/1947, No. 119 Sub-Storage Site of No. 274 Maintenance Unit at Swannington.
